Once a month, the Rev. Bud Daneker of the Horizon Church in Salisbury Township, his wife Donna and the youth group pack lunches for the homeless and then deliver them.  First, they meet at Harry S. Truman Elementary School where they work assembly-line style, packing lunch bags with sandwiches, carrots, granola bars and bottles of water.

"It's one thing to talk about loving your neighbor—we need to show it, too," Donna Daneker said. "We started doing this last year and the kids loved it. Now they ask when are we going to do it again."

I followed them on Sunday and found myself trudging through knee-deep snow along railroad tracks and creek beds to reach some of the well-hidden camp sites along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Allentown. Easily the oldest one in the group, I had a hard time keeping up with my high-spirited companions. By the time all the lunches were handed out, I was soaking wet from head to foot and chilled to the bone but grateful to God that I, unlike the lunch recipients, had a warm place to go home. Kudos to Rev. Bud and the kids for their mercy mission.

Horizon Church meets 10 a.m. Sundays at Harry S. Truman Elementary School, 1400 Gaskill Street in Salisbury Township.

Awesome job kids. From our past experience when we did this in the fall, it's a really neat ministry to come together as a church and do for others who just don't have much of anything. I know for a fact, My kids, Jacob and Emma, truly were moved by our church effort this fall and continually ask about the men we met while delivering food, blankets, shoes, clothing, hygiene products, you name it, we got it together as a church and we blessed these men with so much.....It will never be enough, but it's a start and it is teaching our children to always think of others. Very nice article!
