Lehigh County Dems Make Pick for 134th State House Seat
John Reynard of Emmaus is the Lehigh County Democratic Committee’s choice to replace Patrick Slattery on the November ballot for the 134th state House seat.
An Emmaus man has been selected by the Lehigh County Democratic Committee to replace Patrick Slattery on the November ballot in the 134th state House district race.
John Reynard, a personal investment consultant, will face Rep. Ryan Mackenzie in the fall election. Mackenzie won the seat in an April special election against Slattery to see who would fill the unexpired term of former Rep. Doug Reichley, who left state politics to become a Lehigh County judge.
Slattery, of Lower Macungie, was expected to again face Mackenzie in November, but he withdrew his name from the race in July, citing personal and professional reasons.
In a prepared statement, Reynard said: “I’m extremely honored to have been recommended to fill the slot formerly held by Patrick Slattery. I know that I will have big shoes to fill, but I will do everything that I can to win this race.
“I’m more than a little frightened at the pattern we’re seeing in Pennsylvania. The Republicans are choosing kids with virtually no experience in the real world, just partisan campaign hacks, to run for seats in the State House and rubber stamp the extreme, right-wing agenda of the Corbett administration,” Reynard added.
Reynard has been a college professor, teaching business and economics at Lehigh Carbon Community College and Lehigh University; has worked as a financial adviser at Merrill Lynch, and currently is a personal investment consultant, focusing on socially responsible investing.
Reynard was expected to be confirmed by the state Democratic Committee last night.
The 134th District includes Lower Macungie, Emmaus, Macungie, Alburtis and parts of South Whitehall, Upper Milford, and Salisbury in Lehigh County and Hereford, Bally, District, Washington and Bechtelsville in Berks County.

Wow, this candidate goes right for the throat. If you heard 134th Rep Mackenzie speak at our July 3rd LMT Seniors mtg you'd realize he's certainly up on what's happening in Harrisburg. His knowledge of current state affairs really diminishes the "no experience kid" referral by this gentleman and has no basis whatever.

Simply knowing current state affair does not replace life and professional experience. It's great that Mackenzie has spent his "career" learning the ways of conservative politics, but that is no substitute for raising a family and working in and with the community. I'm confident Mr. Reynard will represent the 134th district with integrity, rather than playing politics with people's livelihoods as Maxkenzie has demonstrated.

Eric, obviously you know a lot about Mr. Raynard. Can you explain for me why you think he would represent the district so well?
I've never even heard his name before.

"The Republicans are choosing kids with virtually no experience in the real world, just partisan campaign hacks" Should get alot of Bipartisan work out of this guy. How about running on your record instead of condeming everyone else at this early stage, Unless your like Obama and don't have one. Would love to hear more about his socially responsible investing ideas.

'Socially Responsible Investing'?
In other words, this is a guy without a clue about investing or anything else relevant to the race for the 134th.
