LVH Celebrates Milestone in Lobby Renovation

Employees and community members sign a final beam that will frame a new addition to the lobby at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

The following press release was provided by the Lehigh Valley Health Network:

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) celebrated a milestone in a project that is under way to renovate the main lobby at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

LVHN employees and community members signed the final beam before it was hoisted into place to complete the frame of the lobby’s new addition. When complete, the new lobby will make it easier for patients and visitors to enter the building, find their destination inside the hospital and feel comfortable while they wait for a ride home.

“We constantly strive to give our patients and visitors the best possible experience,” says Craig Onori, LVHN vice president of support services and co-chair of the health network’s Warm Welcome Project. “The renovated lobby will provide a warm welcome and a fond farewell for everyone who visits the hospital.”

During phase one of the renovation project, the one-story addition is being built to the left (facing the building) of the current main entrance. It will contain a waiting room where patients can wait comfortably for their ride, and a vestibule where people will access valet services and exit the building. A new welcome desk also will be built in a location that is clearly visible to people entering the hospital. At the welcome desk, patients and visitors can get directions and answers to questions they have about their visit.

With phase one underway, construction fencing has been installed outside. Patients can be dropped off at the front door, which will remain open. However, two driving lanes are closed on the exiting half of the circular road in front of the main entrance. Inside, temporary walls have been installed to isolate construction work from pedestrian traffic. A temporary welcome desk is located to the right of the main entrance.

During phase two, patients and visitors will enter and exit the hospital through the new addition while new entryways and a larger canopy are installed. The new entryways include a two-chamber revolving door, and two double wide doors with a chamber between them. These doors – coupled with upgrades to the lobby’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system – will make the air temperature in the lobby more comfortable.

As a finishing touch, areas near the main entrance and parking decks will be landscaped with seasonal plantings, adding color and texture to frame the façade. The renovation project is scheduled to be complete in the fall of 2013.
