Lehigh Valley Hospital's Children's ER in Salisbury Township celebrated its first anniversary Monday. It is the region's only emergency room equipped and designed for children. More than 9,600 children visited the new emergency room in 2011, according to hospital officials.

The Children’s ER is staffed by certified pediatric emergency nurses and child life specialists who help children cope with the fear associated with a hospital visit. The Children's ER has its own waiting room to help ease the anxiety children may feel seeing sick or injured adults. The cheerful, playful decor and interactive wall videos were designed to help distract children from their injury or illness.
