Looks like "groundhogs" Yahdee and Lee will be in a raft, rather than on a sled, on Thursday, Feb. 2 -- Groundhog Day -- when they take their trip down Jordan Creek to Wehr's dam and make their prognostication on Spring.

Mother Nature is expected to cooperate this year as Grundsau Lodge No. 16, formed to preserve the traditions of the Pennsylvania Dutch, hosts its Groundhog Day event at 7 a.m. at Wehr's dam at Covered Bridge Park, South Whitehall.

According to the National Weather Service, it will be cloudy, with highs near 47 degrees. There is a slight chance of rain, but not until 10 a.m.

Patch told you earlier this week about the Groundhog Day event, which will feature songs in Pennsylvania Dutch dialect. The big attractions are "groundhogs" Yahdee and Lee (one's stuffed, the other's a puppet). Will they see their shadows? (That would mean six more weeks of winter.)

Blogger Brian Hite, who has regularly attended, writes that the gathering is a must-see event, both for its entertainment value and its tribute to Pennsylvania Dutch traditions. He writes: "What is the future when you don’t remember or honor the past?"
