Salisbury police are using a new device that automatically records motorists' speeds, uploads the information to a secure Web site and snaps a photo of a vehicle traveling at an excessive rate of speed.

The device, which can be moved to various locations, was set up for the first time between Nov. 30 and Dec. 3 to record motorists traveling south on a section of S. Cedar Crest Boulevard to Briarwood Lane, said Officer Bryan Losagio.

Police posted a sign notifying motorists their speeds were being recorded. During those four days, the average speed recorded was 45.11 mph in a 45 mph zone. The highest speed recorded was 93 mph at noon and the lowest speed recorded was 26 mph. Speeds generally range between 38 mph and 47 mph during high-traffic times.
