Police Chief: We Will Find Jane Doe's Killer
The Salisbury Township Police Chief vows to follow every lead to find the person who killed an unknown woman found suffocated and burned Dec. 27 on Chestnut Hill Road.
After an exhausting day combing through evidence where a woman's body was found burning on a frigid morning last week on a remote wooded road on South Mountain by a passing motorist, Salisbury Township Police Chief Allen Stiles vowed the department will find the killer.
"We will follow every lead we can to find out who committed this crime," Stiles told the Salisbury Board of Commissioners last week.
The woman, whom investigators refer to as Jane Doe because her identity is unknown, died from suffocation and burns on Dec. 27, according to the Lehigh County coroner. She is believed to be a white or light-skinned Hispanic woman between 20 and 40 years old and about 5 feet to 5 feet 2 inches tall.
Her body was found on the side of Chestnut Hill Road, a winding residential road that begins as Second Street in Emmaus and winds through Upper Milford, western Salisbury and Upper Saucon townships.
It was the second homicide in Salisbury in 2012, a rare occurrence in this township that borders Allentown, but is increasingly experiencing more violent crime, according to Stiles. The police department will be hiring a new officer this year to help deal with the increased cases.
In July, the body of Kim Cardona, 20, of Whitehall, was found badly beaten and her throat slit off the side of Lanze Lane, a wooded residential area off I-78 in eastern Salisbury.
Jonathan Nunez, 20 of Allentown, was arrested in August and charged with killing Cardona. He is awaiting trial.
Investigators are asking the public for any information they may have in the case of Jane Doe or if they have information about a missing person. Salisbury police may be contacted at 610-797-1447 or the crime tip line at 610-402-2400.
