Police K-9 Dog Trials Raise Money for Slain Police Officer
Event at Salisbury High School stadium unites area police and K-9s for a day of agility, obedience and memories.
The Salisbury High School football field was the venue for the first Police K-9 Trials, held Sunday in memory of fallen Berks County Deputy Sheriff Kyle Pagerly, whose K-9 partner, Jynx, was working with him when he was slain.
Pagerly was shot in the line of duty on June 29, 2011 leaving a wife, unborn child and other family members to cope with their loss.
Jynx, a two-year-old German Shepherd, was trained at the Philadelphia K-9 Academy in 2009 with a speciality in explosives and patrol.

Jynx demonstrated his skills Sunday and offered a pose or two in front of several hundred spectators and police.
Pagerly was born in Reading and graduated in 2001 from Wilson High School in West Lawn, Berks County. He also was a U.S. Army Military Police graduate and served in Kosovo in 2002 and Iraq in 2002. He was promoted to sergeant in 2004.

He graduated from the Reading Police Academy in 2005, Federal Bureau of Prisons basic training in 2006, Berks County Sheriff’s Department in 2006 and the Philadelphia Police Canine Academy in 2009.
Additionally, he was a lieutenant in the Spring Township Fire Department.
