Keys to Awesomeness: With a genuine interest in the cause and a true passion for art, ninth grade student Michelle Dang created the winning T-shirt design for the 2011 Race for Adam Foundation’s sixth annual 5K run/walk. The foundation is named for Salisbury Middle School teacher Sean Recke's son, Adam, who has Niemann-Pick Type C, a rare, fatal disease. Dang participated in the race last year. All students taking art classes at the school were allowed to enter the contest, which required the words “I believe…” to be incorporated in the design. There were so many entries that six large tables were filled. A committee narrowed the field to three finalists, ultimately selecting Dang’s as the best. Dang, whose design shows the word “believe” as a running path, said she wanted it to be a little more abstract than some of the other students’ creations.
