Dorney Park Worker Killed Walking Across I-78 Ramp

State Police at Fogelsville say Allentown driver could not stop in time to avoid striking and killing Zhen Li, a Dorney Park worker who was crossing I-78 in Lower Macungie.

 

A Dorney Park worker was struck and killed by a vehicle early Tuesday morning as she walked across the Interstate 78 ramp in Lower Macungie, near the South Whitehall border, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's office.

The worker has been identified as Zhen Li, 22, a Chinese national working for the summer at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, the coroner's office said.

She was pronounced dead at 9:19 a.m. in the emergency room at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Salisbury Township.

The coroner's office ruled Li's death an accident, the result of multiple traumatic injuries.

Li was walking east across the ramp from Hamilton Boulevard north to I-78 east at 5:36 a.m., according to State Police at Fogelsville. The vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, driven by Zachary James Edwards, 19, of Allentown, was driving up the ramp and was unable to stop before hitting the woman, police said

The woman was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

Edwards' vehicle received moderate damage, police said.

Macungie Ambulance and Lower Macungie Fire Department responded to the call, police said.

Traffic was diverted during the morning rush hour at the time of the accident and subsequent investigation.
