To me, part of the problem is the arrogance of some of the players. It seems that they can do as…Read More they please, don't be a team player, to try and maintain their stats and forget about the team. I hear the announcers questioning the positioning of the outfielders. Question where are the coaches? Granted the players are supposed to be professionals and know what they should be doing, but even the best need help at times.

Perhaps if the pay scale changed to an incentive type scale - pay as you win, or pay for a clean…Read More drug test things may change. I am amazed at the salaries these persons are getting and the performance just does not match up.

Unfortunately, Utley has zero trade value since he's in the last year of his contract. You say…Read More "thanks", give him a gold watch and let him sign in the AL as a DH and spot 1B/2B. You aggressively shop Howard to the AL, where he can DH. You eat 3/4ths of his contract to do so. You bring up Ruf to play 1B. You trade Papelbon to a contender. Unless somebody floors you, keep Lee.

Ben, You are being a bit naive. Look at what is happening in Washington and the attacks on…Read More individuals for their beliefs. People are afraid of being targeted. As you can see, people get quite ugly when others don't agree with them. They still want their voices heard and feel Patch s one such way.
Jim Kutkowski June 18, 2013 at 12:02 am
Ben got in the arena, he voiced his opinion, and now when he is responded to the argument is that he…Read More is 20. I campaigned for Bill Clinton when I was 19 and when I voiced my opinion I took the barbs in stride. The Republican voters, not Ben Long chose their nominee, so Mr. Long's issue is with them. If he cannot support their candidate, perhaps he is in the wrong party. Before we get into a food fight, it would be nice to see what each candidate says on the issues considering that is what matters here, and just because one candidate or another has a "radical" view on the Federal government's role does not amount to a hill of beans because this is a county election.
Carl Gentile June 18, 2013 at 05:13 pm
Republicans who disparage the Tea Party can't possibility be in stop with the mood of the large…Read More majority of the party. They simply espouse smaller government, mostly in the sphere of economics. If your are not for that you are not a Republican.
I sure hope Patch opens its blogosphere to people of all political philosophies.

I am sorry you were made to feel bad. It is obvious that you have dealt with difficulties in your…Read More life. I am glad you overcame them. I guess I made a bad attempt to make you feel better by trying to point out that it was obvious that they weren't purposely trying to offend you. I am sorry that I only made it worse. God bless!

Ladies, lighten the h*** up! YOUR "user name" is NOBODY! That is why he referred to you as…Read More that! If you don't get sarcastic humor or don't have a sense of humor at all, then move on. It WAS funny. So many people are so uptight about things. Wiggy sounds like a true gentleman and he treats his fiancé like a lady. There isn't many of them around anymore.
Marc Kovacs June 18, 2013 at 07:43 am
nobodyknowsbutme, lighten up. I didn't mean to offend you by shortenting the user name YOU chose to…Read More use. You seem so sensitive to this I have a feeling you do wish that you were acknowledged once in a while for the things you do. It's nice once in a while for your loved ones who you do so much for to thank you. Maybe they'll read this and get the hint.

the Phillies are a garbage team just like Miami and Milwaukee
Mike Shortall June 10, 2013 at 11:53 pm
Anyone who follows the game and this team KNEW they had to play very, very good fundamental baseball…Read More and stay very, very healthy to contend. So far neither has happened consistently enough, though there have been flashes of it for short stretches.
I worry more about the injury bug right now because it robs the team of those who - in the recent past - have been more consistent (Utley, Ruiz, even Kratz, not so much Doc).
That being said, there's still a lot of baseball left and plenty of time to decide whether to be Buyers or Sellers in July. 8 1/2 games out is not a good sign, but it's still too early to selling guys off. And I definitely wouldn't trade a Domonic Brown at this point regardless. They'll need someone to build around if they do decide to sell off eventually.
Joe Sommers June 11, 2013 at 12:23 pm
Your on Drugs Ruin Tomorrow. Miami is garbage ...The Mets are juts as bad. , The Nationals are…Read More right with the Phillies. The entire NL is mediocre.
Trade Domonic Brown???? You know nothing !

Call me a barbarian but I go to the car wash. My thirteen year old car looks great.
Robert A Lane June 13, 2013 at 09:40 pm
Take the easy way out - for about $20 plus or minus with tip go to the Mexican guys in Quakertown.…Read More They are on the south bound side where the old battery warehouse was - directly across from the big car wash on 309. They did my SUV for $25 including generous tip - inside and out, dressed the tires and did the windshield about 3 times! These guys are fantastic and really do a great job for the money.

Everybody says "legalize it and tax it." That's just an oxymoron = once it is legal = you…Read More can grow it in your back yard for free. Big Brother makes so much more already by enforcing the established laws, set up with the sole desire to incarcerate the addicted, that there will always be a fictional "War on Drugs."
Christopher Morton May 30, 2013 at 03:57 pm
Yes, and the person next to you drinking cannabis tea, does not effect you. The person who just…Read More vaporized, does not effect you. Those hash oil tablets I just ate, won't effect you. Non-smoking means non-smoking - if there is someone smoking next to you, get out of the smoking section.
You are right, marijuana is not like alcohol. If I were sitting next to you while I was high, and you annoyed the piss out of me by complaining about smokers in place that obviously allows smoking, I would just laugh it off or move away. I could smoke all night, and my mood would not change. If I were to drink, and keep drinking, eventually I would get confrontational, and we would be fighting. So, the guy next to you drinking can indeed effect you.

You fail to realize that making somthing illegal instantly makes that product very expensive on the…Read More black market.......this is where crime takes hold.......Remember Al Capone and the mafia were most powerful during the prohibition of alcohol......and considering Pennsylvania garners high tax revenue from alcohol sales in state stores.....your suggestion is foolish...........This is AMERICA land of the FREE.......dont tell people how to live you dirty commie

Economics is over my head...I won't even attempt to analyze it, let alone debate on it...All I know…Read More is I make sure there is food on the table through prudent budgeting.
I do want to express my excitement when the Phillies win games...Yesterday was majorly exciting with Galvis hitting that walk off home run following Kratz's whopper to tie the game!..But must the team have to wait for the last inning to do it?..Keep it up, Phillies.
Rosemary B May 20, 2013 at 12:44 pm
Tea Party groups are all very separate with separate missions. I understand the ones targeted were…Read More seeking the tax free charitable status because their stated mission is to educate about issues. They are not an actual "political" party. They will usually look favorably upon any candidate for lower taxes and smaller government. At least that is my understanding.

Funny, when the fightins were winning, Phillies medical staff was taking all of the bows. Now that…Read More they can't keep 9 guys on the field, where are is all of the blame? Can't have the good with the bad, just like the Phoenix Suns medical staff. Taking credit for doing your job and being VERY, VERY LUCKY! As the Fightins age, expect more injuries to occur. Maybe it's time to change the medical staff along with the head guy....nice runs boys, but the end needs to come sooner or later, and maybe next time a bit more humility during your success, and less spotlight, so when challenges like this season come along, you aren't the focus of why nobody is getting better.

Mischa, you're right- it's been years since Toyota built a fun car. Lets face it, Toyota builds…Read More appliances that people who know nothing about cars buy because they're a safe bet. Nothing wrong with that, but even a run of the mill Honda has more excitement than a Toyota.

Rich, Tammy: Did any expert-level medical person ever state that they thought the fight and the…Read More seizures were connected? Second question: when does people's perception of events become "true?"-When they write it on paper? When they write it on social media? When they speak it in an interview? When it's spoken among friends? When it's written in a journal? When does something become "true?" If multiple people are writing/saying the same thing, and their perception of that thing shaped events, then it is noteworthy to reveal what they said. Everyone has their own perceptions of every event; it's when perceptions are shared among many that they are noteworthy to report. That is what has been done here. You're not mad at the article, you're mad at perceptions that differ from your own.
Rebecca Savastio May 28, 2013 at 12:10 am
Rich, Firstly I am sorry for your loss. As stated in the article, it was the medical examiner who…Read More said that there were no broken bones and no trauma found that could connect the schoolyard fight to Bailey's death. If that is, as you claim "totally inaccurate," that is something you ought to take up with the medical examiner and the sources who are speaking to the press, because that is what was stated at a press conference on May 13th. As reported by the Delaware County Times, "Sources indicated the autopsy on Bailey O'Neill did not indicate any evidence of trauma related to the fight..." Secondly, the article does not say that anyone in the family has participated in any of the racial comments. Nothing I found out during my investigation indicates that either. I did not write the article hoping to imply that anyone in the family had been participating in the racist comments. Those comments have come from the community and were pulled and quoted exactly as they appear under news stories online. If people interpret that the family is/was participating in racial comments then those people are not comprehending the story correctly. With regard to "lumping the family together," the article details the comments and behavior from two distinct Facebook pages and does not mention anyone by name specifically. It is up to the reader to do their own research and come to their own conclusions after the facts are presented. I'm sure your clarification will assist them in doing so.

What a fascinating story! I'm so glad you shared it -- I've seen raised gardens but never knew…Read More really how they were made (or how much WORK). I really enjoyed reading every step of the process -- and what makes it even more interesting was the story behind it; the teams working together; the final project; the sense of community and sharing and stewardship.
Angie Drake May 17, 2013 at 03:20 am
Yes, the sense of community and stewardship of our earth was key to the idea of creating a community…Read More garden at my church (Christ Lutheran on Main Street in Hellertown) - it is a physical manifestation of our discussions on environmental topics. And it was really neat how well everyone worked together. Most of these people were not planning on having garden space. They were just helping those who wanted this garden to become a reality.

This is why I live in this area. Short of the occasional flood on the Delaware River (which I…Read More choose not to live next to), minor earthquake tremors, occasional heavy snow storms, or downgraded hurricanes, the area is pretty safe from natural disasters. Tornadoes, major flooding, landslides, forest fires, earthquakes and major hurricanes I can do without. (knock on wood) I don't want to jinx us. Although we do have to contend with PennDOT and the traffic debacle on 412 as well as monkeys on the bike trail. LOL

I agree Judy, no more gifts! I would rather have the time. Since I first responded to this, I have…Read More had my 3 local kids all agree to pitch in and put the house back together now that the painters are done. We started a GF diet with my 6 year old son (Autism and unexplained hives) last week and so far the…Read More Glutino "Oreo's" are the favorite. He used to live on Ritz crackers with hummus and we are struggling to find a replacement. Nothing comes close (but the Snyders pretzle sticks will hopefully go well with his hummus!). I am going to start baking my own recipes at home since everything seems to be so expensive, but we are really having a hard time finding lunch options for him. The Udi's bagles are NOT going over well and that was his favorite option for lunches. He likes eating a hot lunch, so this is not going to be an easy one! I look forward to following your blog!

Debbie, try that GF Baking Classics cookbook; many great recipes in it. For lunch; get GF rolls or…Read More bake some GF bread and make him sandwiches! Freeze most of the bread so it keeps longer. Or try making something he likes and freezing extra servings already in containers for lunching. Heat it that morning and put in a thermos for him to enjoy at lunch time.
