GIANT donates $9,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley

GIANT Food Stores is celebrating its 90th anniversary by expanding the company’s “Living Here, Giving Here” community support program with 90 Days of Giving to local food bank partners and throughout the communities they serve. GIANT recently recognized Second Harvest Food Bank with a special $9,000 donation to provide hunger relief throughout the Lehigh Valley community.

“Since GIANT was founded in 1923, our commitment to being a good neighbor has been unwavering,” said Rick Herring, president. “We are proud to be a leader in the fight against hunger, raising millions of dollars and donating thousands of pounds of food for hunger relief throughout our 90 year history. No one in the communities we serve should go hungry, and we will continue to support Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley on future efforts to eradicate hunger.”

“Over the years, GIANT has proven time and again that they are a wonderful corporate partner in the fight to end hunger,” said Ann McManus, director, Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania. “Whether it’s monetary donations or in-kind contributions, their support for Second Harvest and its network of member agencies goes on and on.  Happy 90th anniversary, GIANT!  And may you have many more.”

Also as part of GIANT’s 90 Days of Giving, each of the company’s 200 stores is conducting at least one random act of kindness. These acts, which will focus on efforts to help eradicate hunger or improve the lives of children, will vary by community, so be on the lookout for GIANT associates in special 90th anniversary t-shirts around local communities throughout the summer and early fall.
