Families With Chinese Adoptees Celebrate Chinese New Year

Families in local group celebrate their children's Chinese heritage

Families with Children from China-Lehigh Valley chapter welcomed in the Chinese New Year with an hours-long celebration Saturday in South Whitehall.

Photographer Betty Cauler captured the scene as about 250 people -- children and parents -- filled a hall at First Baptist Church to mark the Year of the Rabbit.

The Northern Shaolin Academy in Audubon performed a traditional lion dance, to the beat of a drum, and demonstrated several forms kung fu. Chinese students from Lehigh University performed a traditional folk dance. And students from the Huaxia Chinese School - Lehigh Valley Branch, which meets at Northampton Community College, performed a dance.

The FCC-LV also helped raise money for China Cares, which provides medical care for orphaned children with special needs.
