People flocked to family farms in Lehigh County Sunday as the Penn State Extension sponsored its annual Open Gate Farm Tour.
Twenty farms participated this year, including Marwell's Dairy Farm and Pappy's Orchard in Lower Milford. Other stops included: Grim's Greenhouse and Farm Market in Upper Macungie, Manito Equestrian Center in South Whitehall and the Seed Farm in Upper Milford.
Patch stopped by Pappy's Orchard, where Michael Urffer, his son, David, and other farmily and friends greeted visitors. The orchard grows apples, peaches, plums and pears on six acres. Turkeys are raised on another part of the farm for Koch's Turkey Farm in Tamaque.
At Marwell's Dairy Farm, partner Barry Gehman led a tour, introducing visitors to dairy farming. Many enjoyed a hayride through the farm's fields.
