Five Family Events For The Weekend

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children.

Take in a high school musical, a Pokemon pizza party, storytelling, a charitable bounce and an upcoming basketball fundraiser.

1. All the world's a stage. 

Where/When: Salisbury High School auditorium, Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m.

Why Go: The student production of "Steel Pier" is a chance to step back in time and experience the world of marathon dancing in Atlantic City in 1933.

Pricing: Tickets are $8 and may be purchased from cast members or at the door 30 minutes prior to each performance. 

2. Practically perfect: Pokemon and pizza. 

Where/When: , Saturday, March 19, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Why Go: Advertised as a Pokemon Party and Beyblade Tournament, the unique event, pulled together by a local mom, is a fundraiser for Autism Speaks. There will be general Pokemon card trading, real Pokemon game instruction, Pok-o-war, Hang-o-mon, crafts, a Beyblade tournament and Beyblades to try.

Pricing: $10 per person. Attendees will get Pokemon cards, a slice from Joe's Pizza and a drink. All ages are welcome. Proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks. R.S.V.P. to Alice Boulrice.

3. Because everyone's got a story to tell.

Where/When: Godfrey Daniels, 7 E. 4th St, Bethlehem, Sunday, March 20 from 2 p.m. to 4 p .m.

Why Go: This is the last session in the Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild's Winter Children's Series 2011, so you won't want to miss this opportunity to check out it out.

4. Enjoy a bouncing birthday bash.

Where/When: Bounce U, Allentown and Bounce U, Bethlehem, Sunday, March 20; Two sessions, 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Why Go: Help Bounce U to celebrate the fifth anniversary of its Bethlehem location with an open bounce session to benefit Lehigh Valley Food Banks.

Pricing: Cost of admission is a non-perishable food item. Bounce U will donate the food to Lehigh Valley Food Banks. Call your preferred location to reserve a spot. Space is limited.

5. Plan ahead to enjoy some local hoops.

Where/When: Emmaus High School, Monday, March 28, 7 p.m.

Why Go: The Emmaus Rebounders, former basketball players and coaches from the area, will take on the Harlem Ambassadors, a professional team that mixes athletic skill with great entertainment, in this upcoming community fundraiser, organized by the Rotary Club of Emmaus. An autograph session will follow the game.

Pricing: Tickets cost $10/adult and $5/student with proceeds going to support Emmaus Rotary's student scholarships and community programs. The event is sponsored by the Holiday Inn Conference Center and Italiano Delite Restaurant. For tickets call 484-664-2829 or emailevents@emmausrotary.org
