Five Things To Do This Weekend

Eat, drink, be merry, see a play and eat some barbecue.

1. Downtown Allentown Restaurant Week

Where/When: Head into Center City for some of the best food the Lehigh Valley has to offer, at a special price.  Allentown’s inaugural restaurant week runs through Sunday, April 3. http://www.allentownpa.gov/eventsweekly/

Why go: Who doesn’t love splurging on a three-course dinner – especially when it’s prix fixe? Use this as an excuse to try some place new, such as the Cosmopolitan or Sangria.

Cost: Lunch varies, $10-$15; Dinner ranges from $20-$30.

2. The Drowsy Chaperone

Where/When: Catch opening weekend of this Tony-award winning musical at the Pennsylvania Playhouse, Illicks Mill Road (between Route 512 and Schoenersville Road), Bethlehem. Shows Friday and Saturday, April 1-2, at 8 p.m.

Why go: A musical that pokes fun at musicals, this hilarious show, set in the 1920s, is about “mix-ups, mayhem and a gay wedding.” As the narrator will tell you, back then “gay just meant fun.”

Cost: $22 for adults; $19 for students/seniors. Call 610-865-6665 or visit www.paplayhouse.org for tickets.

3. Beach Bash and Splash Fundraiser

Where/When: Sample cuisine from some of the area’s finest restaurants, including The Hotel Bethlehem and Bonefish Grill, and listen the tunes of summer on Friday, April 1, at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, 1-78 and Route 100, Fogelsville, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why go: It’s always fun to party. Why not do it for a great cause: The American Red Cross of the Lehigh Valley. There will be lots of silent auctions, too.

Cost: $75 per person or $450 for a table of eight. For tickets and more information, contact Sandy Gaspar at 610-865-4400, ext. 258, or go to http://www.redcrosslv.org.
