Five Things To Do This Weekend

Enjoy Community Day in Salisbury, take in some theater, celebrate Celtic heritage and go to a museum for free.

1. Celtic Classic

Where/when: Downtown Bethlehem, between Hotel Bethlehem and Lehigh River; 4-11 p.m. Fri.; 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Sat.; 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Sun.

Why go: All the Scots-Irish heritage you can shake a shillelagh at. Three days of non-stop music on four stages, food, strong refreshment, crafts. Highland games, Highland flings and a concert by Irish-American band Solas.

2. Museum Day

Where/When: Area museums participating in Smithsonian magazine’s 4th Annual Museum Day are open to the public for free on Saturday, including America on Wheels and Allentown Art Museum in Allentown, Sigal Museum in Easton, and Historic Bethlehem sites.

Why go: Free is good.

How much: Download tickets from www.smithsonian.org/museumday. One free ticket admits two; one ticket per household.

3. Conestoga Wagon Exhibit Opens

Where/when: Liberty Bell Museum, Zion's United Church of Christ, 622 Hamilton St., Allentown; 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Why go: See a half-size replica of a Conestoga wagon that smuggled the Liberty Bell from Philadelphia to Allentown in 1777. Children make their own small wagon replica; reservation required.

How much: By donation. 610-435-4232.

4. Salisbury Community Day

Where/when: Green Acres Park and Western Salisbury Fire Department. Green Acres Road and S. Ott Street; 

Why go: Meet your neighbors, learn about organizations in the area, tour the fire house. There will be food and lots of games and activities for kids.

How much: Free

 

5. George Bernard Shaw’s “You Never Can Tell”

Where/when: LaBuda Center for the Performing Arts, DeSales University; 8 p.m. Fri. & Sat., 2 p.m. Sun.

Why go: Comedy of manners was written in 1897 but it’s still funny.
