Five Things To Do This Weekend: Sept. 16-18

With festivals across the Lehigh Valley and bright fall-like weather, there's no excuse to stay home.

1. Third Annual Organic Apple Festival

Where/When: Rodale Institute, 611 Siegfriedale Road, Kutztown; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

Why go: Pick your own apples from the farm’s organic orchards, learn about how to grow them yourself, great food, wagon tours, straw bale maze and music to dance to, too.

2. 15th Annual Riverside Festival of the Arts

Where/When: Scott Park, Larry Holmes Drive, Easton; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sat. and Sun.

Why go: Regional juried art show and sale, crafts, Crayola activities for children, more arts, James Supra Blues Band, Partyfolk bluegrass, Helen Martin on violin, Lehigh Valley Writers Group and local authors.

3. Fourth Annual Road Jamboree

Where/When: America on Wheels transportation museum, 5 N. Front St., Allentown; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Cruise down Hamilton Street from Wert’s Café, 515 N. 28th St., to museum.

Why go: Free ice cream for first 100 visitors to grand opening of 1950s-era HubCap Café; fiberglass design presentation; demonstrations.

4. Blast Furnace Blues Festival

Where/When: SteelStacks, First Street and Founders Way, Bethlehem; 4 p.m.-midnight Fri., 11:30 a.m.-midnight Sat., 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sun.

Why go: New festival makes Bethlehem’s newest venue a weekend blues capital; Buckwheat Zydeco, Eddie Shaw & the Wolf Gang, Mississippi Heat, Ruthie Foster, more.

5. Seventh Annual Pennsylvania Renewable Energy & Sustainable Living Festival

Where/When: Kempton Community Center; 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Fri. & Sat.; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sun.

Why go: Everything you ever wanted to know about anything green, and more than 100 experts to ask, from geothermal design to recycled art. The food’s delicious, too.

How much: $10, $5 for ages 13-21; www.paenergyfest.com.
