Get Out: Five Things To Do This Weekend

An Allentown Band concert in the park, farmers markets, a fashion show and some kind of big festival going on in Bethlehem.

Musikfest

1. Where/When: Through this weekend. Musikfest ends Sunday after ten rollicking music-filled days and 300 acts on stage, street and indoor venues throughout downtown Bethlehem.

Why Go: There’s music for every ear, the food’s fun, and at the end, fireworks.

2. Allentown Band Concert, "A Grand Russian Spectacular"

Where/When:  West Park, 16th and Turner Streets, Allentown; 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Why Go: It’s the nation’s oldest band, West Park’s trees are beautiful, and everyone else will be at Musikfest.

How much: Free.

3. National Farmers Market Week

Where/When: Aug. 7-13. Local markets this weekend include the Bath Farmers Market in Keystone Park (Race and Green streets), 3-7 p.m. Friday; the Easton Farmers Market in Centre Square, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday; Jim Thorpe Farmers Market, 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, and the Emmaus Farmers Market, 200 block Main Street, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday. Also, enjoy the Allentown Fairgrounds Farmers Market while you can, cause it closes for fair week. 

Why Go: Tomatoes, sweet corn and basil. Pennsylvania produce doesn’t get any better than August. 

How much: As much as you can carry. 

4. Goschenhoppen Folk Festival 

Where/when: Friday and Saturday (Aug. 12 & 13), Henry Antes Plantation, 318 Colonial Road, Perkiomenville.

 Why go: If you missed the Kutztown Folk Festival, this history-filled event features hundreds of demonstrations of the skills and lives of the Pennsylvania Germans. The food is authentic, too, and this year’s theme is The Bake Oven.

5.  Fall Fashion Show

Where/when: Lehigh Valley Mall, 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday

Why go: The mall’s Teen Board models the latest fall fashions, which can be purchased at mall stores.
