Whiz Kids: St.Thomas More's Academic Bowl Team
Academic Bowl team wins district competition

Accomplishment: These studious and highly-motivated seventh- and eighth grade students won the district Academic Bowl held April 10 at Allentown Central Catholic High School.

Keys to Awesomeness: In the beginning of the school year, St. Thomas More students interested in joining the Academic Bowl team were all given a qualifying test by Academic Bowl Coach Maureen Fernbacher. Of those who took the exam, 20 students qualified. Of those 20 students, 13 decided to stay on the team. The team eventually needed to be reduced to eight students. These eight students practice twice a week and are serious about these practices, their coach said. Questions about general knowledge, sports, literature, art and music are reviewed. The Academic Bowl team members said they all contribute something to the team and have great chemistry. Even in the face of intense competition, they remained gracious winners.
