Will You Be Hitting the Road This Thanksgiving?

Wednesday is the single busiest travel day of the year.

More people travel the day before Thanksgiving than any other day of the year, as anyone who has ever tried to go anywhere that day can attest. Whether by plane, train or automobile — it will be busy.

AAA predicts that 43.4 million Americans will be traveling 50 miles or more this Thanksgiving holiday, a slight decrease from the 44 million who did so last year. AAA defines the Thanksgiving travel period as Wednesday through Sunday.

According to AAA, 90 percent of travel will be done by car. Gas prices this week are the lowest they’ve been since 2010, with the average price in Pennsylvania $3.332 a gallon. That’s a 29-cent decrease from gas prices last year, and may encourage even more people to hit the road, AAA said.

Travel this year may be further delayed by a Nor’easter forecast to hit our region Tuesday.
