Neshama Carlebach with the Green Pastures Baptist Church Choir

Congregation Keneseth Israel is proud to present the first Lehigh Valley performance of Neshama Carlebach with Reverend Roger Hambrick and members of The Green Pastures Baptist Church Choir on Saturday evening, November 12, 2011.

Neshama Carlebach is a leading superstar in Jewish entertainment who has a broad interfaith appeal and has been noted as one of the premier female singers in the genre of jazz/pop Jewish soul music. Neshama, Reverend Hambrick and the Green Pastures Choir were nominated for a Grammy award in 2011.  They have performed all over the United States, recently returned from a concert tour in Israel and will be embarking on a European tour in early December.

The theme of this program is a “Time for Healing” following the untimely loss of Alan and Leza Silverstein’s son, Jonathan, age 19. As Alan and Leza worked through their grief they searched for an opportunity they could share with others who were also experiencing suffering and loss.  Upon hearing the music of Neshama Carlebach, the Silversteins knew they had found exactly what they were looking for.

The Silversteins are sponsoring this event to bring “healing” to all those in the Lehigh Valley community in need of being uplifted.  As Alan Silverstein said, “This show is a very powerful expression of unity and healing and puts us in touch with the Carlebach message -- we are one.” Concert proceeds will go to a fund at KI in Jonathan’s honor to sponsor future programs of this magnitude, importance and interest to the community.
