Get Out: Five Things to Do This Weekend

You don't have to "fest" to have a great time this weekend.

1. Appalachian Fiddle & Bluegrass Association's 23rd Annual Bluegrass Festival

Where/When: Mountain View Park, Mountain Road, off Route 512, Bushkill Township; through Sunday, Aug.7

Why go:  Great fiddling, workshops and children's programs.

2. Drum Corps International

Where/When: Marvel at the musical skill and sharp precision of hundreds of young performers on Friday, Aug. 5, and Saturday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m. at J. Birney Crum Stadium, 20th and Linden Streets, Allentown.

Why go: There’s something about summer that calls for horn players and flag spinners. Plus our hometown heroes, The Cadets, will be there.

3. Musikfest

Where/When: Grab your old fest mug and get down to the first weekend of Musikfest, kicking off Friday, Aug. 5, and running for 10 days straight. You’ll find platzes throughout downtown Bethlehem as well as a few stages at the new SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.

Why go: Aw Shucks! That’s why I go, anyway.

4. Martin on Main

Where/When: Learn about all things Martin Guitar at the annual festival, Saturday, Aug. 6, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Nazareth’s Borough Park on N. Main Street.

Why go: Music, history, art and artists.

5. “Around the World in 80 Minutes”

Where/When: Tap your feet and hum along at this variety show Friday, Aug. 5, and Saturday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 7, at 5 p.m., at Holy Family Club, Mauch Chunk Street, Nazareth.

Why go: Your admission gets you not only the show, but hot apps, dessert and coffee, too.
