Get Out: Five Things To Do This Weekend

Catch a movie at the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinema or the Grand Theatre, a gallery talk, a round of yahtzee or learn to knit.

1. “When You’re Strange”

Where/When: Marvel at the new SteelStacks ArtsQuest Center while enjoying this rockin’ “Doors” documentary 8 p.m.Thursday, April 21, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.  

Why go: Did we mention the film is playing in the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinema. Alehouse. That means you can drink while you watch! Sold.

2. Area Artists Gallery Talk

Where/When: Go refined this Thursday as you talk art with some of the area’s best at Iacocca Hall, Mountaintop Campus, Lehigh University, 420 E. Packer Avenue, Bethlehem, at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 21.

Why go: A great opportunity to learn about the local thriving art community. There will be snacks, too.

Cost: Free.

 

3. Board Game Night

Where/When: Call “yahtzee!” at Rooster’s Hava Java, 526 N. 19th St., Allentown, Friday, April 22, at 8 p.m.

Why go: Sometimes there’s nothing more enjoyable than a good cuppa and a round of Monopoly with friends.

Cost: Free (if you don’t count the coffee).

4. “The Wizard of Oz”

Where/When: Watch this classic the way it was meant to be seen, on 35mm, Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at the Grand Theatre, 252 Main St., East Greenville.

Why go: Whenever you get the rare chance to see a classic on the big screen, you take it. Arrive early and hear Carl Black Jr. playing the theater’s 1923 organ.

5. Learn to Knit

Where/When: There is a knitter’s heaven in Bethlehem called Knitter’s Edge, 1601 W. Broad Street. Learn what all the fuss is about at “beginning knitting” with Eileen, 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23.

Why go: It’s therapeutic, and you get to wear the fruits of your labor. Fuzzy socks, anyone?
