New 'Oz' Movie Has Costumes by Local Designer

Gary Jones of Lower Saucon Township designed costumes for the new Disney movie 'Oz The Great and Powerful.'

The creations of veteran costume designer Gary Jones of Lower Saucon Township will be on display on theater screens nationwide as "Oz The Great and Powerful" opens.

The film tells the story of a mischievous magician who gains the wisdom to become a powerful ruler after being swept away to a land of magic and mystery.

Jones' latest project required costumes for 1,500 characters including a wizard, witches and munchkins, according to a Morning Call article.

Jones worked early in his career with Ringling Bros. circus before going into theater and film, according to moviessharkdeblore.com.

He has done costumes for Academy Award-winner Geraldine Page in "The Trip to Bountilful" in 1985 and, more recently, "The Princess Diaries" and "Spider-Man 2."

His four 2011 film projects included "New Year's Eve," according to Jones' filmography on Fandango.
