Painting Pottery May Be Trendy Way To Get Away

Make a mess at PaintSome Pottery in South Whitehall

Ever notice how everything remotely meditative gets compared to yoga? And that once it does it immediately gets a celebrity following? First there was yoga, then knitting and once upon a time: pottery painting. Well maybe it’s no longer super trendy, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining (or soothing).

At first blush, it seems like an activity more appealing to child than mother, sure. But there are more than just kiddies’ birthday parties fueling the global expansion of the national pottery painting chain called Color Me Mine, which now boasts studios in nearly a dozen countries, including Saudi Arabia and The Netherlands. Although popular, the franchise can get quite pricey quite quickly, with material and sitting fees. The answer: South Whitehall’s PaintSome Pottery. All the fun; none of the superfluous costs.

At PaintSome Pottery, patrons can pick from an array of ceramics – from soap stands to bunny figurines to jewelry boxes to vases. Once they settle on their project, they’ll pay for the piece (on average $15-$25) and that’s it. No sitting fee. No firing charge.

Picture this. It’s Saturday night. You hand your baby over to your husband. “Have fun, honey. I’m going out with the girls.” Now, girls’ nights are fabulous but sometimes you just don’t feel like applying eyeliner and pouring yourself into a pair of Spanx. HEREIN LIES THE BEAUTY of girls’ night at PaintSome Pottery. You can go in your sweatpants. It’s actually encouraged. I mean, who wants to get paint splatter on their only cute black dress? Not I (we feel compelled to note that pajama jeans are still not OK. Pajama jeans are never OK.)

So there you are, in your comfy sweats, surrounded by your favorites (or enjoying the delicious silence that comes with a night on your own) painting a gorgeous pasta bowl, actually eating pasta and drinking an exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon. Oh, didn’t we mention? The studio allows you to BYOB and snacks! Just call up and make a reservation – they can accommodate up to 40 people. There’s no extra charge.
