Pork Illustrated Cover Art Contest Open to Kids

Lehigh Valley Health Network and the IronPigs co-sponsor 3rd annual Pork Illustrated cover art contest for kids ages 5-12.

The Lehigh Valley Health Network and the are joining forces again to sponsor the third annual children's drawing contest for the cover of Pork Illustrated, the IronPigs' game program.

Any child between the ages 5 and 12 can participate, unlike previous years when the contest was open only to the hospital network's pediatric patients and their siblings.

"We decided to change that this year to give more children an opportunity to enjoy the experience,”said Brian Downs, director of media relations at LVHN. The age range was also extended, Downs said.

“We tried to pick a range that was fair to all participants and at the same time could produce some creative designs,” Downs said.

“The 5 to 12 range seems most appropriate. Children of that age enjoy drawing and coloring and I’m sure would be thrilled to see their design on the Pork Illustrated cover and get a chance to take part in pre-game festivities right on the field at Coca-Cola Park.”

LVHN's focus on children was underscored earlier this year with the opening in February of its at in Salisbury Township. The emergency room is the only one of its kind in the region, offering emergency services designed to address the unique medical needs of children.

For this year's Pork Illustrated cover art contest theme, children are asked to draw what they like most about summer. The deadline is Thursday, June 9.

After all artwork entries are submitted, each drawing will be scanned and posted on the LVHN Facebook page, where the public can vote for their favorite submission from June 14 to June 28.  A person votes by choosing the "like" option.  An individual can like one, more than one, or all the entries, but they can only "like" each one once.  The entry that receives the most "likes" will be the winner and will be the featured artwork on the cover of the August 12 Pork Illustrated.

The winner will also receive four free tickets to the August 12 game and help throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The winning entry will be announced on July 1.

Parents can obtain a consent form and the Pork Illustrated cover template for the drawing at http://lvhn.org/ironpigs.  The consent form and drawing must be deposited in the entry box in the Lehigh Valley Health Network office lobby, 2100 Mack Blvd., Allentown, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The deadline is June 9.
