Dole Recalls Bagged Lettuce, Cites Salmonella Risk

Dole has recalled bags of their Seven Lettuces salad after a random sample of the salad mix tested positive for salmonella.

According to recent reports , the contaminated batch includes 756 bags of the salad blend, and was distributed in Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin.

According to foodsafetynews.com , the Seven Lettuces salad is marked with a use-by date of April 11, 2012 and Product Codes 0577N089112A or 0577N089112B, both of which can be found in the upper right corner of the package. It is also identified by the UPC code 71430 01057, located on the back of the package below the barcode.

Dole says consumers should throw possibly contaminated bags into the trash, while Dole works with distributors to make sure the bags aren't on the shelves.

Salmonella is a food-borne illness. Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal cramps. About 142,000 Americans are infected each year with Salmonella.
