Five Spooky Attractions in the Lehigh Valley

Get thrilled, scared stiff or totally lost when you visit one of these haunted attractions in the Lehigh Valley.

Jack-o-lanterns on porches.

Fake cobwebs hanging from the rafters.

Costumes on display in storefront windows.

Yup, it must be my favorite time of year again: Halloween!

And with my favorite time of year comes some of the coolest / spookiest / downright grossest attractions. Forget sitting on Santa’s lap or hunting for Easter eggs. Tis the season for monster mashing and pumpkin smashing.

These five area attractions are a must-see during the Halloween season.

1.3350 Devonshire Road, Salisbury Township.

The theme of Devil’s Folly is based on a terrifying butcher shop, so anyone who doesn’t check out the pictures can use their imagination. The haunted barn claims to be “the first haunted attraction of this caliber anywhere in the Lehigh Valley.” Definitely sounds worth the admission price!

Devil’s Folly Haunted Barn is open every Friday and Saturday through Halloween.

 2. Hotel of Horrors in Saylorsburg is a perennial favorite for this contributor. The haunted house is built inside the legendary (and supposedly haunted) Lake House Hotel, right off the Route 33 south Saylorsburg exit.

I’ve personally seen three adults cry before making it through the Hotel of Horrors… and not all of them were women.

New for 2011 is three attractions all in one location. There's Hotel of Horrors, Altered Nightmares and the Exhibition Macabre.

Editor's Note: Want to see the editor of Nazareth Patch fly down a ramp and dive into the fetal position? Too bad! The guys with the chainsaws saw it happen already...

Hotel of Horrors in Saylorsburg is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October, and on Halloween.

3. Mazezilla never ceases to amaze me. This home-grown corn maze is 11 acres of winding stalks with a different theme every year. It’s never taken me less than two hours to traverse the entire maze.

Mazezilla is found at Klingel Farm, which is on Route 115 between Saylorsburg and Wind Gap. The family friendly attraction also features hayrides, the launching of pumpkins, and a 100-foot slide.

But the best thing about Mazezilla? Homemade apple cider!

Editor's Note: The editor of Nazareth Patch needs a GPS to get out of Mazezilla. Four hours later... we're still lost and can't even find all of the stations...

Mazezilla is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Halloween.

4. Easton Haunts is made up of two attractions: the 13th Street Fear Factory, a haunted walk-through, and the 3D Freak House -- 3D glasses and special paints make the walls look like they're popping out at you!

Easton Haunts, which is operated by the same people from the former Tatamy Haunted Mill, is located at the corner of 13th and Bushkill streets in Easton.

Other features include face painting, food concessions and free parking.

Easton Haunts is open every Friday and Saturday in October, and on Halloween.

5. Halloween Haunt at Dorney Park is made up of 11 horror attractions spread throughout the Lehigh Valley amusement park. Seven of them are outdoor mazes and four more are housed in buildings, including a haunted mansion, an asylum, and the Psycho Circus -- which, unfortunately, resembles the Killer Klowns From Outer Space that freaked me out as a kid.

I had the chance to traverse a few of the haunted attractions just last week, and it’s definitely worth the trip -- especially with the after-6 p.m. discounted admission price.

Halloween Haunt at  is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Halloween.
