Giant to Raise Money for Breast Cancer Research

Next time you're grocery shopping at Giant, fill your cart for a cure for breast cancer.

Throughout October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Giant Food Stores will be holding several promotions that provide "customers with plenty of ways to 'Buy, Get, Give' to breast cancer-related organizations in their local community," according to a press release.

What Giant is Doing Throughout October:

  • The floral departments will make a 25-cent donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for every awarenes, hope and strength bouquet sold.
  • Giant will make a $1 donation -- up to $5,000 -- to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition for every person who shares their breast cancer-related story on Giant's Facebook page.
  • In-store pharmacies will be handing out breast self-examination brochures to customers.
  • Customers who purchase select items from Proctor & Gamble, General Mills, Giant and other participating vendors will receive rewards, such as a $10 prepaid Visa card or money off their grocery order.

"Giant and the accompanying vendor partner will make a donation to a local organization that supports breast cancer research, education and/or awareness," the statement said.

“This deadly disease impacts one out of eight women in the United States, and we are proud to paint our stores pink to help raise awareness about breast cancer and preventative measures,” said Rick Herring, president of Giant / Martin's, in a press release.

“By donating five cents from the sale of each pink reusable bag this month, we are also proud to support local organizations in our community as they work to find a cure.”
