Lehigh Valley Hospital Patient Died Trapped in Bed

Lehigh Valley Hospital said specialty bed was defective, according to The Morning Call.

An 88-year-old patient who died at was found trapped between the mattress and a side rail, according to The Morning Call.

The article cited a report by the Pennsylvania Department of Health that said the hospital continued to use the same type of specialty bed for other patients for the next 13 days until hospital staff found another patient at a different Lehigh Valley Health Network facility trapped between the mattress and a side rail.

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim had ruled the Jan. 11 death of Donald Campbell of Whitehall Township accidental.

The hospital called the death "a tragic accident" and said the bed was "defective," according to the article.
