Sands Casino Smashes Its Table Games Record

Sands Casino brings in $14 million in gross revenue from table games in January, a $4 million increase over a year ago, Gaming Control Board says.

The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem shattered its previous record for table games play in January, grossing nearly $14 million, according to figures released last week by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Combined with the $22.9 million the Sands grossed from slot machine play, the casino brought in $36.9 million in revenue as opposed to the $32.5 million in revenue the South Bethlehem casino brought in during January 2012.

An increase of $4 million in revenue from table games play at the Sands represented a 40 percent increase over a year ago, cementing the Bethlehem casino as the most popular place for table games in Pennsylvania.

Statewide, at all 11 Pennsylvania casinos, table games brought in 12 percent more gross revenue than they did during January 2012. Table games generated $8.5 million in tax revenue for the state during the month from $59.4 million in total gross revenue.

Overall, revenue from slots and tables combined was $247.6 million as compared to $243.5 million in January 2012.

Though slot play at the Sands increased by a little less than 2 percent in January, it declined by about 1 percent statewide.
