Salisbury Champion Chesapeake Bay Retriever's Last Show

Rita, the number one female Chesapeake Bay Retriever, loves showing and knows what she needs to do in the ring to be the breed winner.

The Meyer household is getting ready for a big weekend.  Some may think
that it is a special birthday or graduation.  No, it is a dog show.   is off to shows at Tinicum Park in
Bucks County and Mercer County Park in West Windsor Township, NJ.   Why are
these shows so special?  After all, she has been showing since she was a
year old.  Sunday’s show has fifty Chesapeakes competing for
Only one Chessie will come away with that title.

Rita has a very good chance at becoming that one Chessie.

The breed winner will receive one point for every Chessie they beat.  These points are used to help your dog move up the national breed and all breed standings.  These standings are updated at the end of every month.  As of the end of March, Rita is #6
in the breed standings and #4 in the all-breed standings.  She is the #1 female in all-breed.  She absolutely loves showing and knows what she needs to do in the ring to be the breed winner.  She and all the other Chessies will be judged on how well they meet the breed standard.  This includes size, head, body, coat, gait, color and temperament.

Kevin, her professional handler, also knows how to get the best out of her performance.  The two of them have a very special bond.  Having the judge give your dog a few breed wins already in her show career, helps.  But, my favorite dog show saying is, “On any given day, anything can happen.”

Hopefully, the right thing happens.  We will see!!
