Expect Traffic Delays on Route 22 This Weekend

Beams will be set this weekend on the new Route 145 bridge over Route 22, PennDOT says.

Expect lane restrictions and traffic stoppages this weekend in the area of the Route 22 interchange with Route 145/MacArthur Road, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says.

The restrictions will allow workers to safely set beams for the new bridge over Route 22.

  • Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, a lane will be restricted on Route 145/MacArthur Road south between Grape Street and Fairmont Avenue
  • Also beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, a lane will be restricted on Route 22 east and west between Fullerton Avenue and 15th Street.
  • Restrictions are expected to be in place until 6 a.m. Saturday.
  • There will be several brief traffic stoppages on Route 22 east and west during the same hours.

The $13.8 million project, designed to improve traffic flow on Routes 22 and 145, began in May 2012. PennDOT says 87,000 vehicles travel Route 22 each day, while 38,000 vehicles travel Route 145/MacArthur Road every day.

As part of the project, the cloverleaf interchange is being replaced with a diamond interchange to eliminate the current merging patterns. Also, the bridge over Route 22 that is being replaced will be wider and taller.

The project is expected to be completed in December.

To keep the public informed, PennDOT has created a website for the project with status updates and traffic cameras. The public also can sign up there for email updates.
