LVH Gives Nearly 11,000 Free Flu Shots

Lehigh Valley Health Network held its annual community flu shot event and food drive on Saturday at Dorney Park. Another was held Sunday at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.

Nearly 6,000 people drove through Dorney Park in South Whitehall on Saturday for free flu shots, courtesy of Lehigh Valley Health Network.

LVHN offers the free flu shots to the community each year, and with the drive-through venues, people don't even have to get out of their cars. They merely roll down the windows and stick out their arm.

The hospital network also gave out free flu shots on Sunday at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.

LVHN spokesman Brian Downs said a total of 10,638 people received the flu shots:

At Dorney Park, 5,976 people.

At Coca-Cola Park, 4,662 people

As part of the community program, LVHN also asked for food donations.

Downs said 10,680 pounds of food were collected.

He said the non-perishable food will go to:

* Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank

* Second Harvest Food Bank

* Allentown Rescue Mission

* AIDS Activities Office food pantry
