Mom, Son Fight Over Cigarettes, Police Say

An Upper Saucon Township man is charged with assault and harassment after a fight with his mother over her cigarettes, according to court papers.

A pair of Upper Saucon Township residents got a different kind of lesson on the dangers of cigarettes recently.

Daniel Birk, of 4834 Route 309 South, has been charged with assault and harassment, following a fight with his mom over her cigarettes, according to Upper Saucon Township Police.

Daniel Birk went up to his mother's room on the second floor of their home, "without permission, pulled the blanket from on top of her and took her cigarettes," according to court papers.

Their verbal fight spilled out of the mother's room and down the stairs to the ground floor, where Daniel Birk pushed his mother, causing her to hit her head on the wall at the bottom of the steps, police say.

When police arrived, his mother complained of pain and allowed a police officer to "feel a large lump on her head," according to court papers.
