Correction: Funnel Cloud Spotted Near Nazareth

Potential twister spotted at Routes 33 and 248 on Monday evening.

NAZARETH - The National Weather Service says an ominous funnel cloud was spotted near Nazareth on Monday night, but that a tornado touch down was not confirmed as reported by the Morning Call. 

The weather service has confirmed that a tornado hit part of neighboring Carbon County.

Tornado warnings kept residents on edge much of the evening as strong thunderstorms blew through the Lehigh Valley. 

There were no reports of injuries related to the funnel cloud, which was spotted at Routes 33 and 248 in Lower Nazareth Township. The cloud did have the potential to turn into an actual tornado, according to a National Weather Service meteorologist interviewed Tuesday afternoon by Patch.

At the Nazareth School Board meeting Monday, attendees were moved to the basement of the high school for safety briefly during the height of the storms.
