Philanthropist Inez Donley honored with KidsPeace memorial

One day after what would have been the Donleys 67th wedding anniversary, Ed Donley watched as the plaque honoring his wife was dedicated.

Inez Donley dedicated her life to helping other people, giving time, talent and substantial funding to causes close to her heart.

As her daughter, Martha Robb, said, "She always had a soft tough for the underdog."

Donley's penchant for giving to those in need set her on a lifelong course of philanthropy that touched many Lehigh Valley organizations, including schools, libraries and other nonprofit groups. KidsPeace was helped repeatedly by her generosity and that of her husband, Ed Donley, former AirProducts CEO. They gave nearly $1.5 million to KidsPeace over the course of their marriage, $1 million of which helped create the Donley Therapeutic Education Center on the Orchard Hills Campus in North Whitehall Township, a place where more than 300 children gather every day to learn, play and heal.

On Friday, a memorial was unveiled to honor Donley, who died in January at the age of 97. One day after what would have been the Donleys 67th wedding anniversary, Ed Donley watched as the plaque honoring his wife was dedicated.

KidsPeace associates, visitors and the children in our care will be greeted daily by Inez Donley's face and the story of how she helped perpetuate the KidsPeace mission of giving hope, help and healing to children, families and communities. To further honor her life, KidsPeace will recognize Aug. 6 (Inez's birthday) annually as Inez Donley Day, which will be a time to encourage all associates to volunteer time in their communities.
