Happy New Year @ Allentown Public Library!

January's Adult Programming schedule at Allentown Public Library

Happy New Year!  Now that the holiday hustle and bustle is coming to an end, make time to stop by the Allentown Public Library and take advantage of some of the excellent programs offered at no charge!

 

From January 2 – February 28, adults with an Allentown barcode are eligible to join the Adult Winter Reading Program, "Beat the Winter Blahs…Read!"  Any Allentown Public Library book, ebook, or audio book are able to be listed on the reading log.  Each listed item will earn one raffle ticket entry for one of several prize baskets (filled with goodies and gift cards from great local merchants!).  There will be bonus prizes awarded on select dates, and a grand prize drawing at the end of the club.  Read for fun!  Read for Prizes!  Please call Sharon at 610-820-2400 ext. 2 for questions or additional information.

  • Wednesday, January 16, 2013, 7:00pm-8:00pm – Author visit with Nilsa Lasso-von Lang and Jiwanda Gale-Rogers

Nilsa Lasso-von Lang and Jiwanda Gale-Rogers give a talk about the release of their latest book, “Flavors of Panama” at the Allentown Public Library. “Flavors of Panama” presents a chronological overview of Panamanian cuisine. It brings together delicious and popular native foods and variations of many cultures, including European and American cuisine, Panamanian-Asian dishes, Afro-Caribbean/Afro-Hispanic foods, Mexican, South and Central American foods, and Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines.

  • Saturday,  January 19, 2013, 2PM – Movie Screening - King of Devil's Island

This gripping drama tells the true story of the uprising at the notorious Bastoy Boys Home correctional facility on a Norwegian island. When a new boy arrives, he inspires the inmates to rise up against the daily brutal treatment they experience.

Norwegian with English subtitles.  (Film Series films are for ages 17+)

  • Wednesday, February 20, 2013, 7:00pm-8:30pm – Poetry/Open Mic Night

A platform for poets, storytellers and musicians to share their works and the inspiration behind them in an intimate setting.  Those interested in performing are asked to sign up at the event (first-come, first-served). *Come Perform! Come Listen!

 

In the Children's Room, signups have started for our Winter/Spring Storytime Sessions for children ages 0-5.  Storytime will begin the week of January 14, 2013.  Please call 610-820-2400 ext. 4 for more information or to register for a program.
