Personnel Committee for November, 2013

November continues the trend of less instructional assistants being hired. Only one person was hired with another instructional assistant resigning. Even though the personnel committee is winding down until the spring, many interesting surprises still are in store for now. For instance: an experienced psychologist was just recently hired for Western Salisbury Elementary School, and Salisbury Middle School, a new nurse was hired for the part-time position at the elementary schools, two teachers are taking FMLA leaves, and two Harry S. Truman Elementary School teachers are studying for their principal certifications. As well as that, the usual abundance of new and returning volunteers are still coming in.

As always, anyone with questions, credible anonymous tips, or a request for clarification can contact me at stsdpersonnelpatch@gmail.com. Please allow me up to a week to respond due to my hectic schedule.

The most important thing this month is the hiring of Mrs. Wanda Rousenberger as a Full-Time Itinerant School Psychologist between Western Salisbury Elementary School and Salisbury Middle School; on an undisclosed date. Before starting at Salisbury, she had been the Full-Time School Psychologist for the Lehighton School District since December, 2010. She replaces Ms. Maria Pinnatta, who had worked at Salisbury in that position since 2007.
Mrs. Laurey Sperring resigned as a 4 hour a day Part-Time Instructional Assistant effective at the end of the work day on November 6, 2013. She was originally hired in December, 2012 as a one-on-one, but was quickly transferred to an office assistant position within a month and a half of being hired.

Mrs. Lori Klein was hired as a 4 hour a day Part-Time One-on-One Instructional Assistant at Salisbury Middle School effective retroactive to October 11, 2013. She replaces Mrs. Nancy Russo, a longtime instructional assistant who had been an afternoon library assistant at Western Salisbury Elementary School, before being transferred to a one-on-one position at Harry S. Truman Elementary School a year ago.
Mrs. Joanne Marzola was hired as a Part-Time Nurse (7.25 hours for 3 days a week) effective retroactive to October 22, 2013. She is the 5th person hired in the frequently vacated position since it's establishment in 2011. She is extremely qualified, having 48 years as a Nurse at Sacred Heart Healthcare System. She replaces Mrs. Shelly Francello, who only spent only six days in the position.
Mrs. Cynthia Mugavero, the 7th Grade Math Teacher at Salisbury Middle School, and Mr. Marc Snyder, one of the two Chemistry Teachers at Salisbury High School are both taking an FMLA leave for up to 60 days. Mrs. Mugavero's leave is effective from November 27th, 2013, and Mr. Snyder's leave is effective December 3rd, 2013. I unfortunately do not know enough about the specifics to say if anyone has already been hired for that position, but I can say that it will be only offered on the AESOP substitute portal if at all, since it is less than half a year in duration.

Mrs. Barbara Samide, the Principal at Harry S. Truman Elementary School; is mentoring Harry S. Truman Elementary School and Western Salisbury Elementary School Librarian Mrs. Norma Brennan, and Harry S. Truman Elementary School 4th Grade Teacher Mrs. Susan Young, for 370 hours of pre-administrative services so they can get a Principal's certification.

Mr. Chris Basile is volunteering as an assistant junior high boys’ basketball coach for the 2013-2014 school year. He previously volunteered in this position last school year.

Mr. Adam Young is volunteering as an assistant varsity boys’ basketball coach for the 2013-2014 school year.

In other news, two school board members retired. Mr. Brian Bobeck and Mrs. Jane Fischer got signed certificates of recognition for their loyal service, since they were elected in 2008. Pictures of them with President Giordano and Vice President Mantz were posted on Facebook. I encourage my readers to check them out when you can.

Correction: I later learned by reading the Salisbury Press that Mrs. A'Brunzo attended her meeting, and got a certificate noting her service presented to her.
