Personnel Committee for October, 2013

October was not as interesting of a month as September in terms of hiring new instructional assistants; only two were hired this month, with no new teachers hired at all. However, many surprises are to be found even now: including a recent leave of absence, a longtime teacher taking over an important advisory position for a recently retired teacher, and a different employee volunteer coaching again this year. Anyone that wants a clarification, make a correction, give an anonymous tip, or want information on other staff changes that happened in previous years, can contact me at stsdpersonnelpatch@gmail.com. I may take up to a week to respond if I'm busy.

First things first though, Mrs. Lorraine A'Brunzo, who officially retired last month; was honored at the recent school board meeting on October 9. It is currently unknown whether she was there or not, as she was not pictured in offical photos that were released on Facebook.

Ms. Elyse Saeger was hired as the 4 hours a day Part-Time 7th Grade Learning Support Assistant at Salisbury Middle School retroactive to September 30, 2013. As well as that, she is also the Chorus Advisor for Western Salisbury Elementary School and Harry S. Truman Elementary School. For the Chorus position, she replaced Mr. Eric Saltsman, who had been hired last school year after the retirement of Mr. Theodore Steinbrecher. She replaces Ms. Amilee Schillinger as an instructional assistant, who had only been at Salisbury since March, 2013.

Mrs. Anita Gopen was hired as a 2 hours a day Part-Time Instructional Assistant at Western Salisbury Elementary School retroactive to September 30, 2013. She replaces Mrs. Doreen Vangeli, who had been promoted to 3 hours a day, after a transfer of another instructional assistant who was mentioned in last month's article.

Mrs. Connie Yost, a long time Head Cook at Western Salisbury Elementary School; took a general leave of absence from September 14, 2013 to October 11, 2013. Last year, she took an FMLA for up to 60 days from April 3, 2013.

Mr. Paul Koba, the Physics Teacher at Salisbury High School; has been hired as the National Honor Society Advisor for the 2013-2014 school year. He replaces Mrs. Lorraine A'Brunzo, who resigned from that extracurricular in August before her eventual retirement.

Mr. Edward Nesfeder, one of two Assistants to the Director of Maintenance, was hired as a volunteer assistant varsity wrestling coach for the 2013-2014 school year. He has done that in previous school years, including last year.

In other news, the Morning Call has reported that Salisbury Township School District is supporting renewing an expiring library tax so township residents can access the Allentown Public Library without paying a membership fee. President Giordano summarized the opinions of the board by saying, "We're behind the Allentown Library 100 percent. We hope everyone in Salisbury does the same." Without the tax, a membership to the library will cost $40 a year. The vote will take place on November 5, 2013.
