An Emmaus man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly stalked his ex girlfriend Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest, where she works, according to court records.
An arrest warrant was issued for Thomas Morris, 41, of 168 Seem Street, on charges of resisting arrest, defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the ex girlfriend notified hospital security that Morris was at the hospital, but had “no legitimate business” there. The woman told security that she was concerned because there had been recent disturbances at her home involving Morris, the papers said.
Then, according to the affidavit:
- Hospital Security Officer Christopher Doll talked to Morris who admitted that he had no business at the hospital. Doll followed Morris to a bus stop in the hospital and then resumed his duties.
- When the woman was leaving work for the day, she requested a security escort to the parking lot. Doll accompanied the woman and they found Morris was standing by his ex girlfriend’s car. Doll called Salisbury Township police.
- Responding police spoke to Morris and “smelled a very strong odor” of alcohol on his breath. He was also “staggering as he stood” and spoke to police. He then “began to get agitated” and “began arguing with police” in the hospital parking lot.
- Police repeatedly told Morris to calm down and stop causing a disturbance, but he did not comply. Police then told Morris he was under arrest and tried to take control of his arms, but he pulled away and resisted and continued to argue. After a struggle, handcuffs were ultimatedly placed on Morris.
It was unclear from the affidavit why Morris did not remain in police custody. The warrant for arrest was issued by night duty District Judge Wayne Maura of Bethlehem.
