Lehigh Avenue Fire Intentionally Set, Police Say

A specially trained arson police dog detects traces of an unknown accelerant at the home at 1456 Lehigh Ave. in Salisbury Township, police said.

Salisbury Township Police said the fire that destroyed a vacant Lehigh Avenue home early Thursday was intentionally set.

The Salisbury Police Department Fire Marshal and the Allentown Fire Department K-9 Arson Unit were called to the burning home at 1456 Lehigh Ave., according to Salisbury Police Sgt. Donald Sabo. Firefighters from Eastern and Western Salisbury fire departments were called to the scene at about 2 a.m.

A specially trained dog sniffed out traces of an accelerant at the location, according to a department press release.

"It is not clear what type of substance was used, but samples have been taken and will be tested by the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab," the release said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Salisbury Township Police Department at 610-797-1447 or the Crime Tip-Line at 610-402-2400.
