Man Accused of Alburtis Killings Had Violent Past

Brandin Lee Kasick's criminal record includes simple assault for hitting a 2-year-old girl.

The man accused in the Alburtis killings of a mother and daughter has a violent past and has had other brushes with the law, Lehigh County court records show.

, 26, who is accused of killing faced a protection from abuse order three years ago and child endangerment charges over seven years ago.

Kasick was charged Sunday in the Walbert killings and from Florida on Tuesday.

According to court records:

* Kasick pleaded guilty on April 5, 2004 to endangering the welfare of a young child he left unattended for 45 minutes in 2003. Initial charges had included simple assault and reckless endangerment for allegedly hitting a 2-year-old girl on the left portion of her eye and forehead and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Judge William Platt sentenced Kasick to up to two years minus one day in jail on the child endangerment charge. He was eligible for work release, and he was to attend parenting classes and refrain from alcohol and illegal drugs.

*  Kasick was served with a protection from abuse order in 2008. He was ordered by a Lehigh County judge to stay away from Chantiel Schanerberger and their two young children.

In the temporary order before the final order was granted, Schanerberger accused Kasick of choking her and pushing her up against a door, coming at her with a knife, then turning the knife on himself in front of their 6-year-old child.

Schanerberger also said there had been prior verbal and physical abuse. The protection from abuse order was granted in 2008.

Kasick and Schanerberger had a daughter in 2001 and a second daughter in 2006, according to birth announcements in the Morning Call.

Schanerberger became when she gave police a bag of clothes that had belonged to Kasick. Police said blood found on one of Kasick's Nike sneakers in the bag matches DNA from victim Jeanette Walbert.
