Man Admits DUI in Lehigh Christian Academy Bus Crash

Scott Michael Haas, whose car collided with a school bus en route to Lehigh Christian Academy, pleads guilty Monday to a DUI. Police had said he had the prescription drug methadone in his system.

A 27-year-old Orefield man pleaded guilty Monday to driving under the influence in a March 1 crash in which en route to near , according to online court records.

Scott Michael Haas, of 5211 Blue Sky Drive, was immediately sentenced to 135 days of house arrest by Lehigh County Judge James T. Anthony, according to a report on lehighvalleylive.com. Haas will also serve 55 months and 15 days of probation and a $1,500 fine, the report says.

The charge was for a second offense.

At the time of the crash, police had said, Haas had the methadone and lorazepam (also known as Ativan) in his system. 

Haas had been northbound on Cedar Crest Boulevard.

According to the lehighvalleylive.com report, Haas' lawyer said his client had been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder, struggles with substance abuse and had been prescribed the methadone and lorazepam by doctors.
