Police Chief: Call Us, Don't Use Facebook or Twitter

Salisbury Township Police Chief Allen Stiles told Commissioners that the police department is receiving crime tips on social media that should be called in to 911 or the Lehigh County Communications Center.

Social media may be all the rage these days, but Salisbury Township Police Chief Allen Stiles says if township residents want to contact the department to report a crime, the best way is the old-fashioned telephone call.

Stiles recently told Salisbury Township Commissioners that the police department has been receiving a lot of activity on its social media sites and tip line.

However, he said, the kind of information police have been receiving is not tips. It is more like people trying to report crimes and contacting the police department for a response.

Stiles noted that the department is equipped to monitor social media sites on a 24/7 basis, so while police will accept social media tips, he urges residents to call 911 in an emergency.

Stiles said in order to report a crime or a potential crime, residents should always call the regular police phone number at 610-797-1447, because the call will go to Lehigh County Communications Center even when there is no one in the office.
