Santa Run in Salisbury Saturday, Dec. 22

Santa will catch a ride Saturday on firetrucks throughout Salisbury Township neighborhoods where he will give out candy canes.

Santa Claus will be on the move Saturday, going from street to street in Salisbury Township by firetruck for the annual Santa Run.

Old Saint Nick will begin the tour at 9 a.m. in the Eastern section of the township, escorted by members of the Eastern Salisbury Fire Department. The Jolly Old Elf and his entourage will hand out candy canes to children, beginning around Broadway in the Fountain Hill section of Salisbury, according to firefighter Anthony Levan.

Then they will make their way through neighborhoods heading toward the center of the township.

Levan said residents who wish to greet Santa should listen for the firetruck sirens and music.

West Salisbury Fire Department will take Santa for their Santa Run, beginning at 2:30 p.m. in their Green Acres neighborhood, according to Fire Chief Joshua Wells.

Santa, accompanied by a small parade of firetrucks will be in the neighborhoods of Saddlebrook, Meadowbrook, Buckingham and three blocks on west side of Cedarbrook. He expects to finish up around 7:30 p.m.

Wells also suggested residents of those neighborhoods listen for the sirens and the music. And he asked that those residents who want to meet Santa come out to the curb so the Jolly Old Elf doesn't have to go up to each house. "Don't wait at your door," Wells said, because it makes for an even longer day for those on the Santa Run.

The Western Salisbury Fire Department provided a truck for the Alton Park Lion's Club when it took Santa on its Santa Run Dec. 15 in the Alton Park and Devonshire areas, Wells said.
