Second Man Sought in 2011 Shooting, Robbery on South Drive

Police have issued an arrest warrant for a second suspect in a 2011 home invasion on South Drive on the South Whitehall/Salisbury border.

An arrest warrant has been issued for a 25-year-old Philadelphia man on charges he took part in a  and shooting on South Drive in South Whitehall, near the Salisbury Township border, that left the homeowner's son wounded.  

The warrant has been issued for Mikael Rafael Coles Jr., according to court records and South Whitehall police. He is the second suspect named in the case.

Police earlier arrested  of Philadelphia. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 31.

According to the arrest affidavit, three armed men broke into Linden Herod's home on South Drive through a basement window at 4:25 a.m. on April 25, 2011, and “herded father, mother, three sons and a juvenile cousin into an upstairs bathroom.” The men tried to get Herod's oldest son Jermaine to tell them the location of a safe, then kicked him in the head.

Jermaine was the last one into the bathroom. Coles fired six shots into the bathroom door, according to the criminal complaint. Jermaine was hit three times in the torso, police said. The robbers fled and family members rushed Jermaine to the hospital where he was expected to recover.

Coles is being sought on charges of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, robbery, burglary, and conspiracy charges of aggravated assault, burglary and robbery.

Brown's preliminary hearing was scheduled earlier this month but to July 31. He had been arrested by South Whitehall police in February and charged with aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, recklessly endangering and criminal conspiracy in the case.

The information was obtained from court records and South Whitehall police. Arrests and arrest warrants do not indicate a conviction.
