Abe Atiyeh Seeks Charter School Variance

The school seeks a zoning variance to convert its garage to a principal use structure.

West Bethlehem Ventures LLC, under the guidance of developer Abe Atiyeh, is scheduled to appear before the Salisbury Township Zoning Hearing Board on Tuesday, Aug. 6, seeking a variance for The Arts Academy Charter School.

The variance pertains to a proposal converting the school's garage into a principal-use structure. Currently, it does not meet the required 50-foot setback.

West Bethlehem Ventures LLC purchased the property at 1610 E. Emmaus Ave., the former Washington School, from KidsPeace Corp. in 2012.

According to its website, The Arts Academy Charter School, serving students in grades five through eight, is a free, arts-enriched public school. The academic curriculum will be enriched by classes in dance, figure skating, theater, music and visual arts.
