Deadline for Property Tax and Rent Rebate is Dec. 31

The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters.

The following was provided to Patch:

State Representative Joe Hackett reminds senior citizens and residents with disabilities thatDecember 31, 2013, is the deadline to apply for Pennsylvania’s Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program.

“Every year thousands of Pennsylvanians who qualify for assistance through this program never apply,” said Representative Hackett. “Meanwhile, these funds can go a long way in easing the burden of property taxes for those in need. Those who have not filled out an application this year have just a couple more weeks to do so.”

The rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters. Half of Social Security income is excluded from the income calculation.

Representative Hackett said applicants can obtain Property Tax/Rent Rebate claim forms (PA-1000) and related information online at www.revenue.state.pa.us or by calling, toll-free, 1-888-222-9190.
